Bat Assemblages Are Shaped by Land Cover Types and Forest Age: A Case Study from Eastern Ukraine

چکیده
Eastern European broadleaved forests north of the 50th degree latitude serve as a core breeding area for most migratory bat species wintering in and Central Europe. The southern border this region has faced an increase clear-cutting intensity recent decades. We conducted standardized mist-netting survey on eleven heterogeneous oak forest plots order to assess how land cover types age affect abundance, diversity bats. found that abundance indices richness increased from upland surrounded by agricultural lands riverine or waterside with high cover. Particularly large mature older than 90 years positively affected activity bats, their overall richness. Regarding associations specific habitats, we Myotis brandtii, Nyctalus leisleri Pipistrellus pygmaeus were mainly deciduous stands, while Plecotus auritus appeared be only tolerating clearcuts young stands. Forest-dwelling such noctula nathusii additionally associated water habitats. Thus, combination sources is essential shaping assemblages species.

Mapping uncertainty in land cover characterization by comparison of land cover cartographies - A case study for Portugal
In this paper we propose a methodology to assess uncertainty of land cover cartographies and its spatial distribution within a ranged scale. The method consists in overlaying different land cover databases and determining the uncertainty values for the intersecting areas. This assessment is based on different nomenclature hierarchic level comparison and on the number of cartographies in agreeme...
متن کاملRandom Forest Algorithm for Land Cover Classification
Since the launch of the first land observation satellite Landsat-1 in 1972, many machine learning algorithms have been used to classify pixels in Thematic Mapper (TM) imagery. Classification methods range from parametric supervised classification algorithms such as maximum likelihood, unsupervised algorithms such as ISODAT and k-means clustering to machine learning algorithms such as artificial...
متن کاملBird assemblages in a Malagasy forest-agricultural frontier: effects of habitat structure and forest cover
Increasing global human population and per-capita food consumption are expected to exacerbate the already massive agricultural footprint in tropical ecosystems. Madagascar is home to exceptional levels of biodiversity and is in the midst of severe land-use change, mostly driven by slash-and-burn, smallholder agriculture. Understanding the consequences of these agricultural practices for Malagas...
